Finding Electrical Risks Before They Become Failures
Braintric completed a comprehensive thermographic assessment of switchboards and associated infrastructure at an industrial manufacturing facility, combining infrared imaging, electrical measurements and engineering assessment.
The challenge
Industrial electrical systems operate under sustained electrical and mechanical loads. Loose connections, deteriorating components, abnormal resistance and load imbalance can create elevated temperatures before a visual inspection reveals an obvious problem.
Braintric was engaged to assess switchboards, main breakers and associated infrastructure as part of an insurance-related electrical condition assessment. The objective was to identify conditions warranting maintenance or further investigation before they could contribute to equipment failure, downtime or electrical fire risk.
Our approach
Operating temperatures were assessed alongside load information and visible equipment condition to provide the context needed for qualified interpretation.
Infrared inspection of switchboards, breakers, connections and equipment while operating.
Current measurements across three-phase circuits to assess operating load and phase balance.
Inspection of switchboards, connections, breakers and associated infrastructure.
Infrared images, visible references, measurements and asset-specific inspection information.
Professional diagnostic equipment used alongside engineering assessment. The report records the thermal-camera calibration as current at the inspection date.
Industrial environment
The assessment extended across multiple distribution boards, main breakers, three-phase circuits, terminations, connections and associated industrial electrical equipment.
Thermography is non-invasive: it allows operating equipment to be assessed under real load conditions while creating a repeatable record for maintenance planning.
Thermal + electrical data
Temperature alone does not necessarily establish an electrical defect. Component type, current, ambient conditions and comparison between phases all matter.
Selected report records demonstrate the depth of the assessment:
The report recorded a range of operating temperatures, including selected observations above 40°C and a maximum observation of 55.5°C. These values are presented as inspection data—not automatically classified as faults or fire hazards.
Inspection in practice
Genuine project photography shows Braintric applying the methodology across both electrical and mechanical equipment.
Professional reporting
The resulting 114-page report created a structured technical record for maintenance planning, risk management and insurance documentation.
Selected extracts are shown without the client address, personal details, camera serial number or sensitive electrical diagrams.
Preventive maintenance value
When combined with electrical measurements and qualified interpretation, thermography can help identify conditions that warrant investigation or preventive maintenance.
Identify developing issues before equipment failure interrupts operations.
Investigate abnormal heating that may indicate deteriorating connections or components.
Use condition information to help prioritise maintenance rather than relying only on reactive repairs.
Maintain professional condition records supported by images and measurements.
Why Braintric
Effective thermography requires more than identifying the hottest point. Load, phase balance, equipment type, connection condition and operating environment influence how the information should be interpreted.
Braintric combines electrical engineering capability, licensed electrical experience and professional diagnostic equipment to provide practical condition assessments for commercial and industrial clients.
