Battery storage Sydney

Battery Storage Designed Around Your Energy Use.

Store more of the energy you generate, reduce reliance on the grid and build greater resilience into your home or business. Braintric considers solar production, consumption, tariffs, backup and electrical infrastructure before selecting the configuration.

Why batteries

Use More of Your Own Solar

A battery stores surplus daytime solar for use later—during the evening, overnight or higher-cost tariff periods.

Its value depends on the excess solar available, when electricity is used, the tariff, battery size and system configuration.

01

Increase solar self-consumption

Store excess daytime generation for later use.

02

Reduce grid reliance

Use stored energy when solar is low or grid electricity is more expensive.

03

Backup options

Correctly designed, compatible systems can support selected loads during outages.

Battery sizing

Bigger Isn’t Always Better

The right battery size should follow the property’s energy use—not simply the largest unit that fits the budget.

We can assess bills, solar production, export data and smart-meter interval data to understand what can charge the battery and what stored energy is likely to be used.

  • Excess daytime solar
  • Evening and overnight use
  • Tariff structure
  • Peak property load
  • Backup duration and circuits
  • Existing solar and inverter
  • Future EV charging
  • Future load growth
“The best battery is not necessarily the biggest one. It is the battery that best matches your energy profile and objectives.”

Capacity explained

How Much Battery Capacity Can You Actually Use?

Battery capacity is commonly shown in kilowatt-hours, but nominal capacity and usable capacity are not always the same.

Nominal capacity is total stored energy. Usable capacity is available for normal operation after system limits. If part is reserved for blackout backup, everyday energy shifting may be lower again.

Blackout backup

Backup Power Is a Design Decision

Installing a battery does not automatically mean every circuit will operate during a blackout.

Backup depends on the battery, inverter power, gateway or backup hardware, electrical design and selected loads. Braintric can assess essential-load backup—such as lighting, refrigeration, internet and critical circuits—or higher-capacity property backup where the system is appropriately designed and sized.

kWh

How long stored energy can be supplied.

kW

How much load can be supplied at one time.

Equipment selection

Battery Systems We Work With

We don’t use the same battery for every property. The system is selected around the application.

Selection considers architecture, solar availability, capacity, backup, monitoring, location and budget. Brand availability and suitability are confirmed during design.

Incentives + VPP

Battery Incentives & Virtual Power Plant Opportunities

Programs and eligibility rules change over time. Braintric can explain current federal and NSW options when preparing a proposal—without relying on outdated hard-coded rebate values.

Battery incentives

Current eligible programs may help reduce upfront cost.

Virtual Power Plants

Compatible batteries may participate in coordinated programs in exchange for incentives or credits.

What a VPP means

A provider may charge or discharge a compatible battery at certain times. Compatibility, control rights, payments, cycling, reserve and contract terms should be understood first.

Location + safety

Battery Location Matters

Placement is not only an aesthetic decision.

Design may consider access, maintenance clearances, doors and windows, combustible materials, vehicle impact, weather, heat, ventilation, nearby electrical and gas services, manufacturer instructions and applicable Australian installation requirements.

Braintric assesses the location before finalising the system layout.

Battery FAQ

Useful questions before choosing storage.

The right answer depends on the energy profile, equipment and objectives.

How do I know what size battery I need?

Compare excess solar, evening use, tariffs, peak load and backup goals. Bigger is not automatically better.

Can I add a battery to existing solar?

Often yes. The inverter, array, switchboard, metering, system age and compatibility must first be assessed.

Will a battery work during a blackout?

Only when the battery system and electrical design include compatible backup hardware and nominated loads.

What is the difference between kW and kWh?

kW is the power available at one time. kWh is the amount of stored energy available over time.

What is usable battery capacity?

It is the energy available for normal operation after system limits and reserve settings.

Can I charge from the grid or use time-of-use tariffs?

Compatible systems may support scheduled grid charging and tariff-based operating modes, subject to configuration and program rules.

Can I join a VPP or access battery incentives?

Eligibility depends on the current program, battery, provider and contract. Options should be checked when the proposal is prepared.

Can I add an EV charger later?

Yes. Future charging demand should be considered during the battery and electrical design.

Not Sure What Size Battery You Need?

That is exactly where the design process should start. We can assess solar generation, consumption, tariffs and backup requirements before recommending a configuration.
