EV Charger Installation Sydney—Smart Home & Commercial Charging
Charge your EV conveniently at home or work with a charging system designed around your vehicle, electrical supply, solar generation and future energy needs.
Braintric designs and installs residential and commercial EV charging solutions across Sydney, including smart charging, solar integration, three-phase charging and dynamic load management.
Home EV charging
More Than Just a Power Point
A dedicated charger uses a purpose-designed circuit and can enable faster, smarter and more visible charging.
Faster charging
Charge significantly faster than through a standard household outlet, subject to the vehicle and supply.
Convenient home charging
Plug in when you arrive and have the vehicle ready when needed.
Smart scheduling
Schedule compatible equipment around preferred periods or tariffs.
Solar charging
Compatible smart chargers can respond to available rooftop solar.
Charging capacity
What Size EV Charger Do You Actually Need?
The highest-powered charger is not automatically the best choice. Charging depends on the property supply and the vehicle’s onboard AC charger.
A common residential solution. Approximately 7–7.4 kW can provide ample capacity for many overnight charging routines.
A strong option where three-phase power is available and the vehicle supports 11 kW AC charging.
Higher-capacity AC charging for compatible vehicles and properties with suitable infrastructure.
“Bigger doesn’t automatically mean faster.” A 22 kW charger cannot make a vehicle with a lower onboard AC limit accept 22 kW.
Vehicle compatibility
The Charger Is Only Half of the Equation
Your EV’s onboard charger determines the maximum AC charging rate the vehicle can accept.
Before recommending equipment, Braintric considers the make and model, maximum AC rate, Type 2 connector requirements, daily distance, charging window, current vehicle and possible future EVs.
The charging solution should match both the vehicle and the property.
Solar EV charging
Charge Your EV With Solar
An EV can become one of the largest flexible loads in a property.
Compatible smart charging can monitor available generation and adjust charging to use more energy from the roof. This can increase solar self-consumption and reduce charging energy purchased from the grid.

Smart Solar Charging Needs the Right Integration
Having solar and an EV charger does not automatically mean the vehicle will charge only from surplus solar.
If an EV is charging at 7 kW while only 4 kW of surplus solar is available, the balance may come from the grid unless the system can dynamically adjust.

Smart charging
Charge When Energy Makes Sense
The objective is not always maximum speed. It is having the vehicle ready when required while considering cost, solar and property demand.
“Smart charging is about having the vehicle ready when you need it while using energy intelligently.”
Electrical capacity
Your EV Charger Is a Major Electrical Load
Braintric assesses the complete load picture before selecting charging capacity.
That can include supply phase, maximum demand, consumer mains, switchboard condition and space, solar, batteries, air conditioning, induction cooking, other major loads and a possible second EV.
Dynamic load management
Compatible systems can reduce charging power as other property loads rise, then increase it again when demand falls.
Switchboard + infrastructure
Sometimes the Charger Isn’t the Difficult Part
Location, cable route, switchboard, supply and communications can significantly affect the installation.
- Dedicated charging circuit
- Appropriate circuit protection
- Switchboard modifications
- Additional distribution board
- Longer or larger cable runs
- Three-phase infrastructure
- Smart metering
- Communications and load management
Future-proofing
Installing One EV Charger? Think About the Next One.
Planning likely future requirements can reduce the need to rebuild significant electrical infrastructure later.
- One EV
- Existing solar
- Current household loads
- Existing switchboard
- Second EV
- Battery storage
- Larger solar system
- Electric hot water
- Induction cooking
- Additional smart loads
- Energy management
Open connectivity
What Is OCPP—And Why Might It Matter?
OCPP is an open communication standard used by compatible chargers and charging-management platforms.
Depending on the equipment, it may support smart charging, charger management, energy integration, tariff-based charging, solar integration, remote management and future software flexibility.
“For customers planning a broader smart-energy system, charger connectivity can be just as important as charger power.”
Connected energy
Your EV Can Become Part of the Energy System
A properly integrated system can coordinate generation, consumption, storage and charging.
Objectives may include maximising solar self-consumption, reducing grid imports, charging at lower-cost periods, maintaining battery reserve, managing maximum demand or having the EV ready by a specified time.

Battery + EV Needs the Right Strategy
Without appropriate controls, EV charging may use stored energy intended for evening use or blackout backup.
Braintric can consider solar priority, battery reserve, charging schedule, tariff, charging power and energy-management rules.

EV charging FAQ
Questions before choosing a charger.
The answer depends on the vehicle, property and wider energy system.
What size EV charger do I need?+
Match the vehicle’s AC limit, available supply, daily distance and charging window.
Is a 7 kW charger enough at home?+
For many drivers, approximately 7–7.4 kW provides ample overnight charging, subject to the vehicle and daily energy need.
Do I need three-phase power?+
Not for a typical 7 kW single-phase charger. Higher three-phase capacities require a suitable three-phase supply and compatible vehicle.
Can every EV charge at 22 kW?+
No. The vehicle’s onboard AC charger sets the maximum power it can accept.
Can I charge using solar?+
Yes, with compatible metering, charger hardware, controls and sufficient available generation.
Can the charger use only excess solar?+
Compatible systems may dynamically follow surplus solar. Solar panels and a charger alone do not guarantee zero grid import.
Will I need a switchboard upgrade?+
Not always. Braintric assesses capacity, condition, space, protection and cable route first.
Can I install a charger with an existing battery?+
Yes, but charging settings should consider solar priority and battery reserve.
How can I stop my EV draining the battery?+
Use supported schedules, reserve settings or energy-management rules appropriate to the equipment.
What is smart EV charging?+
Charging that responds to schedules, tariffs, solar availability or property demand where supported.
What is dynamic load management?+
Compatible control that adjusts charger power as other property loads change.
What is OCPP?+
An open communication standard used by compatible chargers and management platforms.
Can I install a second charger later?+
Often yes. Planning supply, cable pathways, distribution and controls early can reduce future rework.
How long does home charging take?+
It depends on battery energy required, vehicle AC limit and charger power. The practical question is whether the available parking window is sufficient.
